Obituary of Ferne Rhea Bellamy

Ferne Bellamy, age 92, of Gate City, died at Holston Valley Medical Center on Monday, June 25, 2018, from complications related to a fall on June 5, 2018. She was born on June 5, 1926 to William Kemper Grimm and Cora Sandidge Grimm on Possum Creek near the community of Cassard, now known as Kermit, VA. She graduated from Cleveland High School and Whitney Business School. She was a life-long member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church where she played the piano and organ from the time she was a teenager until a short time before her death. For many years she accompanied the Chalybeate Springs Quartet composed of her husband, Arthur Bellamy, Hazel and Paul Wininger and Edsel Bellamy, as they sang in many area churches. She was a member of the Yuma Ruritan Club, OES Chapter 116 in Gate City, VA, Yuma Senior Citizens and was a former officer for the Kingsport District United Methodist Women. She was employed at Mason Dixon Truck Lines during WWII until leaving before the birth of her first child. When all of her children were enrolled in school she worked for twenty years as the first secretary at Cleveland/Yuma Elementary School.

Loved ones meeting her in heaven are her husband, Arthur R. Bellamy; her parents; as well as her much loved in-laws and extended family members.

Survivors include her children, Carol Alley and husband, Ronald of Surgoinsville, TN; Penny McClellan and husband, Eugene of Gate City, VA; and Barry Bellamy and wife, Shannon of Rogersville, TN; she has 4 beloved grandchildren, Julie Hensley and husband, Travis; Matthew McClellan and wife, Tori; Michael McClellan and wife, Amanda; and Abigail Daniels and husband, Jordan; she was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Griffen, Dalen, Kathryn, Maggie, Aimee, Mesiah and Matthew. She is also survived by a nephew, Charles Bellamy and wife, Vickie; and 8 first cousins. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brenda Jones and Terry Wininger.

Ferne was the epitome of a Godly woman and led a full life serving God and helping others.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev. Terry Fleenor officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Holston View Cemetery. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 am.
