Obituary of Elsie Bernice Ward

Elsie Bass Ward, age 82, of Surgoinsville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior for her reward on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. She was a life-long resident of Surgoinsville and a member of First Baptist Church of Surgoinsville, where she kept the nursery and taught the little children about Jesus for 49 years. Her love for the Lord never failed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mae Bailey Bass; and infant brother, J.D. Bass.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thales Ward; sister and caregiver, Carolyn (Michael) Christian; nephew, Stacy (Misty) Christian; niece, Amy (Rodney) Jensen; great-nephews, Garrett and Colton Partner; great-nieces, Aylia and Kenzie Christian; sisters-n-law, Evelyn (Bill) Stewart and Davis Ann (Billy) Barrett; brothers-in-law, Larry and Jack Ward; 2 God-children, Venetta Addington and Toney Harr; several more nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Elsie cherished the friendship of Patsy Norris, Sarah Williams, Garnett Allen and Janice Johnson, and the family would like to thank you for all the visits, food and loving friendship. The family would like to also thank special nurses, Callie and Earlene with Amedisys Hospice.

Although Elsie had no children of her own, she loved all the children with a passion unknown. She had a kind and loving heart of gold, and was caring towards everyone she knew. She was a prayer warrior who would pray for or with anyone. She will be loved and sorely missed by so many whose lives she touched in some way.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm – 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 1st Baptist Church in Surgoinsville. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tecky Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Friends may also visit anytime at the home of the sister, Carolyn Christian. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cartertrent.com.
