Obituary of Hurley Carter
Kingsport – Hurley Carter, 85 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He was retired from the Kingsport Press.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Courtney Carter.
Hurley is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Campbell Carter; daughter, Pam Arnold and husband Kent; son, Richard Carter and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Cassie Moore, Meghan McCauley, Mycah Smith and Morghan Arnold; great-grandchildren, Gaven Smith and Shailyn Smith; sister, Shirley Lampkins; brother, James Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home.
A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.
A military graveside service will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 conducting the honors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
