Obituary of James (Jim) Rhea Kerns
JIM KERNS –Kingsport
James (Jim) Rhea Kerns, age 78, of Kingsport, gained his angels wings on Monday night, August 6, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Hammond Post #3. Jim was a born again Christian. Mr. Kerns loved his Atlanta Braves and was known for his many accomplishments, especially his wood working skills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Flora Kerns; brothers, Bill Kerns, Bob Kerns and Rod Kerns; along with his sweet spirited step-daughter, Valerie Davidson.
Jim Kerns leaves behind his loving wife, Wilma Kerns; sons, Joe Kerns and family, Jason Cooley and family, Justin Cooley and family; step-children, Richard Crawford and family, Ron Crawford and family, Joe Crawford and family, and Sherry D. Crawford; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Bates; brothers, Tom Kern and Larry Kerns; several nieces and nephews, and his brother from another mother, Dale Skeens.
Calling hours will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Eddie Childress and Joe Kerns officiating. Military graveside will follow at the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
