Obituary of Florence Lorraine Frazier

Florence Lorraine (Hall) Frazier went to be with the Lord and her beloved Dennis on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Church Hill Health and Rehabilitation. She was born January 1, 1933 in St. Charles, VA. She was the daughter of the late Eckle and Flora Belle (Hicks) Hall. She grew up in the Yuma community of Scott County Virginia and graduated from Cleveland High School.

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Lynn Garden Baptist Church, and the Dorcas Sunday School class. She loved the Lord with all her heart.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Gordon Frazier, brother, Everette E. (Gene) Hall, and special sister in law, Lissie Jean Hartgrove.

After marrying Dennis in 1953, they moved to Dayton Ohio, El Paso Texas (Dennis’ service time) and then to Pasadena California where they lived 40 years. The next move was to Sierra Vista Arizona and then back home to the hills of Northeast Tennessee due to Dennis’ declining health.

Florence loved chocolate and loved to read, mostly westerns and mysteries. She enjoyed her time cooking with the Meals on Wheels ladies. She had a green thumb and love to grow flowers. She enjoyed creating arrangements and giving them away. She won the Kingsport Beautification Award for her church. She loved her animals. She helped organize the Tombstone Animal Shelter. She was always ready to help a relative, church or neighbor with any task. Brownies were her most requested “bring” dish.

Her career began at F.W. Woolworth in Kingsport, Tennessee in the late 1940’s and ended in Pasadena, California in 1973 where she was a Senior Vice President at the Mutual Savings and Loan, only the second woman in the organization to do so at that time.

Florence had two special helpers in the last few years of her life, Polly and Anita.

She is survived by special cousin, Rose “Polly” Hicks, nieces, Anita (Rick) McClain, Michelle (Randy) McDavid, nephews, Alan (Glenda) Frazier, and Tim (Kathy) Hartgrove, great nieces and nephews, Beth Snapp, Alea and Anna Frazier, Tanner McDavid, Luke Hartgrove, Matthew and Benjamin Frazier, step great nieces, Abby, Sarah, and Emma George, and good friend Ellen Christian.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, Tennessee. Funeral will begin at 12:00 pm with Rev. Rick Meade and Pastor Ron Grimes officiating. Music will be provided by Harmony Three. Burial will follow at the McPheeters Bend Community Cemetery in Church Hill, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Tim Hartgrove, Luke Hartgrove, Randy McDavid, Tanner McDavid, Rick McClain, Alan Frazier, Bill Hicks and Matthew Frazier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Haynes, Clayton McDavid, Jason Hicks, Chad Carr, Joe Stallard, David Vicars, and Gene Christian.

The family would like to thank Church Hill Health and Rehabilitation and Lynn Garden Baptist Church for the loving kindness and care Florence received during the last two and a half years of her life. Florence loved all of her caretakers, especially Adam, Austin, Cecil and Sarah.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsport Animal Shelter, 2141 Idle Hour Road, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to the McPheeters Bend Community Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cartertrent.com.
