Obituary of Kathleen Stallard Thompson

Kathleen “Katie” Stallard Thompson 87, of Weber City was carried by angels to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Indian Path Medical Center. Kathleen was saved in September 1943 at Fort Blackmore Methodist Church. Katie married James Thompson, “the love of her life” at the same church on November 20, 1954. She was an active member of Salley’s Chapel Church where she served as the organist and sang with a church trio and quartet. She and James also sang around 50 years, mostly with the “Old Moccasin Gap Quartet”.

Kathleen retired from Sprint United Telephone Company as Assistant Manager of Business Office Operations after 38 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Company “Speaking Of Us” Speakers’ Bureau and enjoyed going to schools and civic organizations to present special programs.

Kathleen was also a member of the Tenneva Club, associated with Independent Telephone Pioneers Association where she enjoyed doing volunteer work for fund raising projects to help elderly and school children. These members were some of her best friends and she enjoyed Christian fellowship with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Thompson; parents, William and Maude Stallard; brother, Ray Stallard; sister, Ruth Fraysier.

Kathleen Stallard Thompson is survived by her daughters, Kim (Mike) Lyons (Colonial Heights), Vickie (Johnny) Morelock (Kingsport); grandsons, Jason (Hannah) Lyons (Johnson City), Lucas (Sonia) Lyons (Charlottesville, VA); granddaughters, Alyssa (Luke) Lane, Morgan Morelock, and Lucy Jayne Morelock (all of Kingsport); great-grandson, Ira Lyons (Johnson City); sister, Jean (Ray) Adams (Greeneville); along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 12pm to 2:30pm on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the chapel with Pastor George Winegar, Dr. Lester Morelock, and Dr. Greg Burton officiating. Music will be provided by the Salley’s Chapel Choir, Lucy Jayne Morelock, and Don Brooks. The family will also receive friends anytime at her residence.

A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery with Kevin Thompson, Richard Adams, Robert Adams, Jason Lyons, Lucas Lyons, and Luke Lane serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harlan Spivey, Ray Adams, Johnny Morelock, Mike Lyons, Ross Fraysier, and all the men at Salley’s Chapel Church.
