Obituary of Milton Zane Starnes

Milton “Zane” Starnes, 66, of Gate City, was received into Jesus’ arms on Sunday, October 14, 2018, following a long courageous battle with cancer, He was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a member of the Stanleytown Community Church. He was employed by the Kingsport Press, Penn Dixie for 10 years, Fraley’s Mining, and VDOT for 30 years.

Zane meaning, “a gift from God” was just that to his family, friends and those who came in contact with him. Zane never met a stranger and enjoyed opportunities to share his testimony of God’s amazing grace bestowed upon him during his long graceful struggle with cancer. He truly appreciated the prayers and visits by all of his family and friends. Zane used his ingenious engineering skills to design and create inventions making everyday tasks easier to manage.

He was preceded in death by his parents June Stallard Starnes and C.E. Starnes.

Zane was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend leaving behind his lifelong partner and wife, Regina Grizzle Starnes; daughter, Brittany Starnes Cole and husband Cody; very special granddaughter, Sophia Cole; sisters, Lynn Hensley and husband Buford, Madeline Helton and husband Everett; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Larry Stallard officiating.
