Obituary of Billy Ray Flanary

Billy “Bill” Ray Flanary, 82, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Bill was born in Ft. Blackmore, Virginia. He proudly served in the United States Army in Panama. Before his retirement he worked numerous years at the Kingsport Press. Bill was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, he loved dancing and karaoke. Bill was a loving husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Moore; brother, James Moore; and brother in laws, Gus Carter and Bill (Nick) Nickels.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Collingsworth Flanary; brother, Bud Moore of Duffield, Va; sisters, Shirley Nickels, Linda Carter and husband Ted, Wanda Carter, and Patricia Lane all of Kingsport; several half brothers and sisters; step children, Randall Collingsworth and wife Sharon, Lana Alexander and husband James “Jimbo”, James Collingsworth and wife Lynn; several special nieces and nephews; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and special cousins.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 5 to 7pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Downtown Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Hobbie McCreary officiating.

A military graveside service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 5, 2018 in Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Hobbie McCreary officiating. Those wishing to go in procession are asked to meet at Carter Trent Funeral Home at 2:15pm.
