Obituary of Iona Nichols Mahan

Iona Nichols Mahan, 92 of Kingsport, went to her heavenly home, Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at NHC Johnson City, TN. Born May 12, 1926 in Trammel, VA. to the late George and Mary Martin Nichols.

Iona was a member of Orebank Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsport. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles W. “Bill” Mahan; son, Bobby Mahan; brothers, James, Hassel, Ronnie and Derrill Nichols; and her sister, Janette Nichols Moody.

Iona is survived by her daughter, Diana (Jr.) Bowen; sons, Glenn (Gloria) Mahan, Gary (Sharron) Mahan, Larry (Sandy) Mahan; daughter-in-law, Brenda Mahan; grandchildren, Darrell (Ani) Mahan, Gina (Bennie) Smith, Chad (Helen) Mahan, Robbie (Regina) Mahan, Shaun (Melissa) Bowen, Kayla (Aaron) Babcock and Amber Mahan; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister, Karen (David) Castle; brothers, Gordon Nichols, Doug (Shirley) Nichols, and Jan(Sue) Nichols; 2 sister-in-laws; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins.

 Special thanks go to the staff of NHC and Caris Hospice in Johnson City for her care.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 3 PM until 5 PM at Orebank Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 5 PM with Pastor David Foster and  Pastor David Smith officiating.
