Obituary of Roger Lee Hicks

Roger Lee Hicks, 86, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. Roger served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for numerous years for Armstrong World Industries before his retirement. His greatest passion was spending time with his family, and being a big kid with his grandchildren. Win or lose he stood by the Chicago Cubs through it all. Although his highlight was watching the Cubs win the World Series with his sweetheart, Lorain in 2016.

Roger is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorain Elizabeth Hicks; father, Lee Roy Hicks; mother, Oralee Rawley VanDerKarr and step-father Melvin VanDerKarr; and brothers, Richard Hicks and Ronald Hicks.     

Roger is survived by his son, David Hicks and wife Vicki; daughter, Brenda Heidt and husband Phil; grandchildren, JoLynne, Kaitlyn and Marci Heidt, Ryan and Jacob Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.

A Committal Service will be held at 3 pm Sunday, March 31, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Park (Mausoleum #2) with Rev. Jack Wiekel officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 pm.
