Obituary of Shirley May Skeens

Shirley May Skeens 80, of Church Hill went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2019 surrounded by her family. She worked at Holston Valley Hospital for 17 years before her retirement. Shirley was a devoted Christian and attended the New Testament Church of Jesus Christ in Mt. Carmel later in life she attended Calvary worship center in Kingsport. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Charles Skeens; son, James Skeens; parents, Roy and Alice Hughes, brothers, Junior  and Buck Hughes.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Busick and husband Ronnie; son, Steven Skeens and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Chris Skeens and wife Kim, Josh Skeens, Adam Kilgore, Matt Kilgore and wife Destani, Alex Carreon, Paige Sexton and husband Anthony, Amanda Skeens and boyfriend Justin, Hannah Hill and boyfriend Billy; 7 step grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great- grandchildren; brother, Raymond Hughes; along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at New Testament Church of Jesus Christ in Mt. Carmel. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Paul Necessary and Larry Bledsoe officiating. Music will be provided by The Collins Family, Paige Sexton, and Billy Barrett. The family will also receive friends anytime at her son’s home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Church Hill Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15am to go in procession.
