Obituary of Mildred Simpson

Mildred Simpson, “Priss,” age 94, of Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. She was a member of Arnold’s Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Kingsport. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Simpson; 2 daughters, Rita Simpson and Wanda Lunsford; son, Ronnie Simpson; parents, George and Betty Ward; sister, Lucille Jobe; and brothers, Clyde Ward and Roy Ward.

She is survived by her daughters, Thelma Justus, Valerie Shelton (Ross Sargent) and Connie Simpson; son, Jack Simpson; grandson whom she raised like her son, Todd Simpson (April Archer); grandchildren, Ray Justus, Vanessa Justus, Greg Hunley, Josh Shelton and Tabby Price; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Georgia Mae Mallet and Minnie Staples; brother, Ed Ward; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm in the chapel. Interment will follow at Bowser Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cartertrent.com.
