Obituary of Shirley Head Mellons

Shirley Head Mellons 92, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Crown Cypress Assisted Living. Shirley was born on March 26, 1927 in St. Charles, Virginia to the late Mike Jr. and Mattie Carter Head. She retired in 1990 from Indian Path Hospital in Florida as the Director of Industrial Housekeeping. Shirley was a devoted Christian and was of the Baptist faith, she was also a member of Eastern Star #198. She loved to spend time studying her bible as well as sewing. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Mellons; daughter, Donna Walker; brothers, Harrell, Truman, and Rutherford Head; sisters, Hassie Pannell and Orie Dean.

Survivors include her son, Norman Mellons and wife, Dawn; grandchildren, David Mosley, Scott Mosley, Dwayne Mellons, and Tina Hathaway; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow in the chapel.

Graveside services will follow at Pennington Cemetery in Pennington Gap, VA with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport is serving the Mellons family.
