Obituary of Hilda Ruth King

Hilda Ruth Campbell King entered her eternal rest on June 7, 2019 at Holston Valley/Ballad Health following a fall that caused severe brain trauma.  Hilda was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother (Nanny) & friend.  She was a hard worker, loved the Lady Vols, and loved to read, sew, bake, & especially go to yard sales.

She was preceded in death by her parents John D. & Ola Marshall Stroupe Campbell; brothers Worley & Tommy Campbell, Carl, Herman, & Kyle Stroupe; sisters Dovie Campbell Payne & Mary Stroupe Craddock and several aunts, uncles, & cousins.

Hilda is survived by her husband, Charles L. King Sr.; children Charles (Chuck) L. King Jr. (Toni), John M. (Catawba) King, & Melissa (Steven) Robbins; grandchildren: Heather King, Amber (Teddy) Wilhoit, Ostyn, Charlsie, & Cadyn King, Dakota & Colton Robbins; great-grandchildren Brylie Neeley & Sabastian Wilhoit; her sister Doris Campbell Gaw (Larry); several nieces, nephews, & cousins;  Special adopted son: Steve (Mandy) Whetsell & family. Special adopted grandchildren: Nick (Tiffany) & Sarah Howard, Meghan (William) & Liam Denton, and Mikaela Howard. Special family friends: Anita and Roger Howard, Judy Trapp & family.

The family will receive friends from 2-3pm on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A short service will follow. Hilda’s wishes were to be cremated so no viewing or formal graveside service will be conducted.
