Obituary of Darrell E. Monroe

Darrell Edwin Monroe, age 87, of Mt. Carmel, TN, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born on January 10, 1932 in Hawkins County, TN to the late Beryl and Eva Clark Monroe. He was a member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church in Kingsport. Darrell was proud to be a Veteran of the United States Military having served in the Air Force from 1952 – 1956. He was a retiree of Holliston Mills with 20+ years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Monroe; and 2 brothers, Alvin E. “Gene” Monroe and Norman Monroe.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his loving wife of 46 years, Isabell Collings Monroe of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Val Monroe and wife, Mary, of Church Hill, TN; sister-in-laws and brothers-in-law, Cleo Hersman of Cincinnati, OH, Ilene and Ted Fletcher of Duffield, VA, Ervin Collings of Church Hill, TN, Lloyd and Judy Collings of Kingsport, TN, and Leon Jackson of Kingsport, TN; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family wants to send a heart-felt thank you to special great-niece, Kaitlyn Clark and special great-nephew, Wesley Weigel, who helped care for Darrell during his illness. The family also wishes to thank the 3rd Floor Staffs of Holston Valley Medical Center and Wilcox Hall for their compassionate care shown to Darrell during his declining health.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr. and Chaplain Todd Monroe officiating. A Military Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 will be performing military rites. All those wishing to drive in procession are asked to meet at the funeral home at 8:45 am.
