Obituary of Alma Briscoe Blye
Alma Briscoe Blye, of Kingsport, transitioned from this life on June 10, 2019 after a brief illness. She died peacefully at home.
She was born December 14, 1937 in Forest City, NC. She attended Douglass High School. She graduated from the Kingsport School of Practical Nursing. She worked for several years as a nurse, retiring from Holston Valley Medical Center in 1992. She was a member of Grace Temple Church in Johnson City, TN. She was president of the Nurses Guild at Grace Temple Church for several years. She bowled in many leagues for 20 years and she enjoyed cooking, crocheting and painting ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Briscoe, Erma Brisco Brown; sisters, Anita Briscoe Jackson and Patricia K. Gaines.
She is survived by her husband, Nathan D. Blye; sons, Nathan C Blye, Michael K Blye, and Lionel C Blye; step son, George Smith (Carolyn) all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Nathan D. Blye II, Keli Blye, Dr. Keithen Blye, Keyo Blye, Azmar Blye (Jennifer), Brandon Blye, Lionel C. Blye, Jr. and Brandi Blye; step grandchildren, Catina Smith and Wendy Smith; Twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Briscoe Kinchloe, Janice Brown, Olympia Gough; brother, Simpson Brown (Minda); several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or anytime at the home of Nathan D. Blye.
A funeral service will follow with Pastor Mark Redd officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Nathan D Blye II, Keyo Blye, Azmar Blye, Dr. Keithen Blye, Lionel C Blye, Jr. and Brandon Blye.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the Blye family.
