Obituary of Cecil Edward Newman

Cecil E. Newman, 87, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2019 at his residence.

 

Cecil was born on May 30, 1932 in Blountville to the late King David and Kate White Newman. Cecil was a 1950 graduate of Blountville High School. After graduating he went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Cecil attended Springdale Baptist Church. One of Cecil greatest joys was his time entertaining his grandchildren after his retirement.

 

Along with his parents, Cecil is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Newman.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Phyllis Newman; daughter, Michelle Carpenter and husband Marcus; grandchildren, Drew Carpenter, Nick Carpenter, and Caroline Carpenter; and special niece, Pam Greer and husband Wed.

 

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Downtown Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with special nephew Pastor Alan Buckles officiating.

 

A graveside service will follow the funeral service at East Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by VFW Church Hill #9754. Pallbearers will be Marcus Carpenter, Drew Carpenter, Nick Carpenter, Wed Greer, Jeff Ketron, and Chris Ketron.  

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springdale Baptist Church, 1616 Haga Road, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660, in his honor.
