Obituary of Thomas Jefferson McCloud

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, Thomas Jefferson McCloud, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 89.

Thomas was born on June 3, 1930 in Richland, Virginia. He was a member of the United States Air Force and a veteran of the Korean War. Following that he had a successful career at Mason Dixon Lines, Inc. On December 2, 1972, he married Clara McCloud of Kingsport, Tennessee.

Thomas was preceded in death by his father Thomas and mother Mary McCloud, brothers Bill and Marvin McCloud and sisters Dolly Freeman, Thelma McCloud, Bertha Messick, Ruby Patrick, and his son Daniel McCloud.

He is survived by his wife Clara Taylor McCloud; his brother, Bob McCloud, his children Deborah Cox, Sherry Ballard and Diane Flanagan Weeks, and grandchildren Stephen Ballard, Christopher Ballard, Whitney Flanagan, Andrew Flanagan, Michael McCloud, Cara McCloud, Jon McCloud, Casey McCloud, Gabriel Searle and Rachel Searle, and great grandchildren Cielle McCloud Gibson, Hayden McCloud Gibson, Ethan Ballard & Jovie Ballard.

Thomas was a member of the Kingsport Color Guard, Shiners International, and the Freemasons. He was a devoted member of Summerville Baptist Church. He was known for his quick wit, lively spirit and deep love of his friends and family— things that will live on in the memories of all that knew him.

A funeral service for Thomas Jefferson McCloud will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at 3:30 PM at Carter Trent Funeral Home with Pastor James Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 PM Saturday prior to the service. The graveside committal service will be conducted on Monday September 16, 2019, at 1 PM in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Hammond Post 3/265 will accord military honors. Everyone is requested to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM Monday.
