Betsy Smith

Obituary of Betsy Smith

Mrs. Betsy Smith, 65 of Church Hill, peacefully went to be in the arms of her Savior on Sunday, December 29, 2019, after her courageous battle with cancer.

Betsy was a lifelong resident of Church Hill. She was a 1972 graduate of Lynn View High School. She was a devout child of God who spent her life praising and serving her Lord and Savior, and sharing His love with everyone. She was a loving wife to her husband Rodney, of 46 years. Her greatest desire after marriage was to have children and God blessed her with two daughters. Later on, God blessed her with the greatest joys of her life; her seven grandchildren.  Because of her loving personality, she developed many close relationships dear to her heart. These included her church family, her "Curves girls", and her Bible Study Fellowship family.

Betsy lived her life to the fullest. She loved traveling, camping, and cruising with her family and special friends, Ed and Cynthia. Betsy's greatest joy has always been working with children. She worked as a teacher's aide at Gravely Elementary School. After starting a family of her own, Betsy became a stay at home mom where she spent her days caring for her children. She was actively involved in her church as a Sunday School teacher and started the children's bus ministry. She truly had a servant's heart. She was known as Miss Betsy, Aunt Betsy, and Mamaw Betsy to many.

She was a charter member of Calvary Lighthouse Baptist Church where she served with her whole heart in any area needed.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Carolyn and Isaac Bellamy.

Survivors include her loving husband, Rodney, of 46 years; two daughters, Sarah Walker and her husband Samuel and Rebekah Walker and her husband Michael; her grandbabies, Sydnee, Seth, Simon, Eliza, Zander, Grayson, and Hunter; two brothers, Ryland Bellamy and wife Judy and Dennis Bellamy and wife Jessie; two sisters, Dreama Hunter and husband Doug, and Amy Thacker and husband Doug; and several nieces and nephews, and a special mother in law, Betty Smith.

The family will receive friends from 11-1 pm Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Calvary Lighthouse Baptist Church, 655 Waycross Rd., Church Hill. A memorial service will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Randall Stapleton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to an online giving account at www.clbcgive.com for her grandchildren in her memory. You may give by selecting the “In Memory of Betsy Smith” link

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her favorite doctor, Dr. Nakhoul and his Nurse Practitioner, Jessica Bembry, along with all the staff at the Cancer Center, and also the staff at Amedysis Hospice.
