Obituary of Joyce Ann Smallwood
Joyce Ann Smallwood 78, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2020. She was born in Amonate, West Virginia to the late Alfred and Mildred Powers. Joy was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in the class of 1959. After graduation she went on to work for Mason-Dixon Trucking Company for 10 years. Joy was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church where she participated and held offices in the United Methodist Women. She was also actively involved in the Bloomingdale Ruritan and held many positions within the District. Joy was an avid animal lover and supported The Bridge No Kill Animal Shelter. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Joey Smallwood.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Jim Smallwood; daughter, Pam Kanzigg and husband Terry; son, Tony Smallwood and wife Betsy; grandchildren, Lauren and Rachael Kanzigg, Molly Smallwood; sister, Peggy Bishop; along with a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Carter- Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport. A celebration of life service will follow with Pastor Amy Sumrall and Pastor Adam Love officiating. Music will be provided by John Powers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bloomingdale Ruritan Scholarship Fund at 3232 Van Horn Street, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to The Bridge No Kill Animal Shelter at P.O. Box 654, Blountville, TN 37617.
