I remember the day I met Leonard. It was at the picking parlor. He welcomed me in, and ask me if I would like to have a cup of coffee. He was such a nice man. I bought a fiddle, two guitars, and a mandolin during the time I have known him. He was a good friend to me. He could really cheer people up if they were feeling down. I can hear him playing his fiddle now iin heaven! Godspeed my friend!!!!

Please accept our Heartfelt condolences. Leonard was a true treasured delight and embellished the essence of storytelling. We will always cherish his sweet and engaging stories of my dad (Ken Powers) and Leonard's adventures of their trip to Bean Blossom when my dad took him to meet Bill Monroe many years ago. Leonard was a caring and kind heart that was always helping fellow musicians and friends.
His beautiful life's melody will forever play as he's reunited in paradise with so many that cherish and love him.

Leonard was a blessing and a bright light for all of those who knew him. He was very generous and kind to children and others and loved by all who knew him. A natural comedian, Leonard could make any day a fun loving one. A Stringed music whiz, he could play any instrument and was accomplished on several of them. Condolences to his family and host of friends, he will certainly be missed.

It’s been a great pleasure to know this fine gentleman for many years, whether playing music, or sharing tales and truth, at “The Lazy Time Pickin’ Parlor” and the earlier days up on 11 W in Kingsport, Tennessee. He often spoke fondly about Lola and sometimes got out his phone to proudly show me pictures of his younger extended family. He’ll be greatly missed by you and all of us, his pickin’ friends. May God bless you the family and all during and after his passing.

Sorry to hear of Leonard passing. He was always super nice to me. Always giving me the ole friend deal. His story telling was top notch. My friend, John Fraley introduced me to Leonard. He gave many musicians a place to learn from others. Like a music school. Prayers for the family.

I am truly very sorry to hear that Leonard is gone. I have been praying that he made ready for the Journey. Leonard has been on my mind for several weeks now, as I knew he was very ill for a while.
I enjoy visiting The Pickin Parlor and singing with the 'loafers' there. What a great bunch of people. Leonard was always very friendly and extra giving in his business he had. He would make sure you got a good deal before leaving with what you wanted! I know my deceased husband, Jim Spears, thought a lot of Leonard also, and Darius and I have always loved Lola Dean! Our prayers and love to all friends and family. I hope Leonard is with the Master right now and enjoying his new life. We are all going down the valley one by one, and must prepare for Eternity while we are here on Earth.
