Obituary of Robert W. Barnes

Robert W. Barnes, 90, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at the Holston Valley Medical Center.

Robert lived most of his life in Kingsport. He was the son of the late Samuel and Gladys Denny Barnes.

He was a graduate of Lynn View High School. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War conflict. Robert retired from Kroger with thirty-nine years of service. After retirement he worked for Christian Brothers Brokerage. Robert also had fifty years of service to the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Harold Barnes.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Lena Rogers Barnes; two brothers, Larry Barnes and his wife Carolyn and Ellis Barnes; several special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to their neighbors for all their kindness.

The family of Robert W. Barnes will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 4 pm with Dr. John Owston officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 pm Monday in the East Lawn Memorial Park. The American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 will accord military honors. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 pm Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Belvue Christian Church, Kingsport or American Legion.
