Obituary of Edward "Eddie" McMillan

Edward “Eddie” McMillan, 71, of Gate City went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2020. He was born in Hancock County, Tennessee to the late Rev. Ray “Jack” and Juanita McMillan. Eddie was part owner and operator of McMillan and Sims Insurance Company in Gate City for over 15 years. He was a devoted member of Lighthouse Church and was also known for his singing of high tenor in the Melody Men Quartet for over 30 years. Eddie was a former President of the Rotary Club of Scott County where he received the Paul Harris Award. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing and biking. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Mary “Buffy” McMillan; daughter, Heather McMillan and fiancé Chris Hickman; special granddaughter who was  his pride and joy, Ashlyn “Budder” Hickman; sisters, Barbara Berry Sanders and husband Ted, Beverly Brickey and husband Roger, and Jenetta Maness and husband Beryl; along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at The Lighthouse Church at 145 Shipp Springs Rd. Kingsport, TN 37660. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Allen McMillan, Pastor David Peters, and Pastor Jonathan Lovelace officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Hickman, Ashlyn Hickman, Nathaniel Wells, Brent Maness, Zack Maness, Mark Sanders, and Beryl Maness. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Moore,Roger Brickey, and Ted Sanders. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50pm.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bryston Winegar and his nurse Francis Bogan for their loving care.
