I just wanted to tell you, the family, how sorry I am that Cotton has passed away. I had just talked with him before he went into the hospital, and I knew he was very weak at that time. I loved talking with him, and hearing all his stories. He had a habit of patting his upper arms when he got tickled and was laughing about something. He was a precious neighbor to me. Love and prayers to you all. Michelle Stapleton

COTTON'S OLDER BROTHER CAP WAS MARRIED TO MY AUNT MABLE. I REMEMBER CAP TELLING HOW HE WOULD GET COTTON ON THE BUS TO SCHOOL & BEFORE LONG COTTON WOULD SHOW UP BACK HOME. THEIR DAD WOULD HOLD CAP RESPONSIBLE FOR COTTON PLAYING HOOKY FROM SCHOOL. CAP HAD A VERY GREAT SOUNDING OLD GIBSON GUITAR HE HAD BOUGHT USED IN THE '40's. I WOULD GO OVER THERE AS A KID AND MABLE WOULD SAY,"THE GUITAR'S IN THE BEDROOM." I WOULD SIT ON THE BED AND PLAY THAT SWEET SOUNDING OLD GUITAR. IT GOT TO BE UNPLAYABLE AND CAP BOUGHT A NEW MARTIN FOR HIMSELF AND A BLUE GIBSON ELECTRIC GUITAR FOR TIM. CAP ALWAYS MEANT TO HAVE THAT OLD GIBSON REDONE BECAUSE IT WAS HIS FAVORITE. CAP WAS THE REASON I WANTED TO PLAY. HE WAS A GREAT GUITAR PLAYER & SINGER & WOULD TAKE ME WITH HIM TO PLAY MUSIC WITH HIS FRIENDS. AFTER CAP PASSED AWAY COTTON TOOK THE OLD GIBSON TO THE GIBSON SHOP IN NASHVILLE & HAD ALL THE WORK DONE SO IT WAS PLAYABLE AGAIN & HE & MABLE GAVE IT TO ME AT A FAMILY GET TOGETHER. I HAVE SEVERAL BOUTIQUE ACOUSTIC GUITARS BUT NONE MEAN AS MUCH TO ME AS CAP'S OLD GIBSON. COTTON WAS LIKE HIS BIG BROTHER CAP. SUCH A JOY TO BE AROUND. I ENJOYED VISITING COTTON & WE WOULD SWAP BOOKS. HE LOVED TO READ. HE IS WITH SUSAN,CAP & MABLE,TIM,KEITH,WANDA,MAMAW ROSIE AND HIS DAD EDGAR NOW & PROBABLY GETTING CHEWED OUT FOR PLAYING HOOKY FROM SCHOOL BUT IT'S JUST LIKE POURING WATER OVER A DUCK. HE'S GRINNING THE WHOLE TIME & WILL NEVER KNOW PAIN AGAIN.I MISS YOU COTTON BUT I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN. YOU DON'T NEED A PLANE OR PILOT'S LICENSE TO FLY NOW COTTON. KEEP THEM ALL LAUGHING COTTON. I LOVE YOU. RAY

Cotton was our friend for many years and was in our wedding. He was good to help everyone that needed it. He never met a stranger. He bought us a beautiful clock for our 50th wedding anniversary that Susan helped him select. He will be missed by many, however, we know he is no longer in pain and was ready. Dear Cotton.I can only imagine the joy you are feeling now. To see Jesus! To see Susan your precious daughter, your family and friends who have gone on before. No more pain no more sorrow. Like the song says, Joy Comes In The Morning. It's your morning Cotton! I know how happy you must be. I love you , Nina
