Obituary of Roy Howard Odom, Sr.

Kingsport – Roy Howard Odom, Sr. 74 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 7, 2021 at his residence following a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in Vietnam. He graduated from Dobyns Bennett and later obtained his Associate Degree. He retired from Eastman Chemical and was a member of the Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge #575 in Gray and a faithful member of Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Sneedville. Roy was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, role model and loved his family. Roy was loved by everyone he came in contact with and his smile brightened the room. He will be greatly missed by all.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Faye Kinsler Odom; his son, Roy Odom, II; his parents, Grant Prior Odom and Etta Mae Horton Odom; his brothers, Glen Odom and Jerry Odom.

 

Roy is survived by his loving wife, “Joy” Janet Odom; sons, Rodney Odom (Angel), Raymond Odom (Eric Lattimore), Samuel and Timothy Poseno; 12 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; sister, Betty Fleenor (Jim); special best friend, Wayne “O.J.” Simpson; several nieces and nephews. Helen Faye’s family was very dear to his heart as well.

 

A graveside service will be held at 3 pm Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Bob Davis officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:45 pm.

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice.
