Jeffrey Riviere

Obituary of Jeffrey Scott Riviere

Jeffrey Scott Riviere, age 69, of Chattanooga, TN passed away June 10, 2021, in his home after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jeff was born in March 1952 in Oakland, CA.  He attended school in Colorado Springs and Atlanta.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in english from Vanderbilt University and later received his master’s degree in theology from Fuller Seminary.   He was married to Barbara (Pool) Maddux for 22 years and at the time of his passing, had been married to Beth (Nordin) Riviere for 24 years. Jeff’s career was spent primarily in faith-based organizational leadership impacting many many lives, young and old.  He loved Jesus; he was a relationally driven person who was most fulfilled when he could participate in encouraging that same love in others. He had also been an owner of Rownd Travel (Hammond, LA) and the Chief Operations Officer for a start-up company in Colorado Springs.

With biblically-based, deep, rich, fire-tested and hard-won understanding, Jeff was ever a source of wise counsel. A meticulous planner and an accomplished athlete; he loved to inspire and engage with others, laugh, tell stories and share the best of life.  In his later years, he considered the “best of life” to be his favorite convertible, golf, cigars and bourbon shared with friends and family.  He had a warrior heart and worked to make everything he did be laced with evangelical whispers.

Jeffrey Riviere is survived by his wife, Beth Riviere of Chattanooga; his daughter, Rachel Fuller; step-daughters Kelly (& Matt) Firing and Megan (& JP) Stokes; his sister Kay (& Tony) Mohr; and a loving band of nieces, nephews, their spouses and between all of them, their 14  children.  He was preceded in death by parents, Roy Riviere and Doris (Peterson) Riviere; his sister, Patti Rice; and son, Robbie.

The visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church,554 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga on June 19, 2021 at 10 a.m.  to be followed by a memorial service at 11.  All are welcome.  There may be an opportunity to attend online; details will follow on the Carter-Trent funeral home website (https://cartertrent.com/ ) as well as other online sources.
