Obituary of Joe Audley Kern

Joe Audley Kern, age 89, of Big Stone Gap, VA, went home to his wife and sons on Friday, July 23, 2021 with his grandson, Stacy, by his side. Joe was born, July 30, 1931 in Mabe, VA. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Ohio and Bullet Mine-Westmoreland Coal Company in Appalachia, VA. 
    Joe was met at Heaven's gate by his wife, Alma Ruth Stanley Kern; sons, Donald Perry Kern and James Darrell Kern; parents, George R and Lillie P Kern; brothers and sisters and spouses, Leonard and Polly Kern, Dillard and Lillian Kern, Clayton and Virginia Kern, Fred Kern, Ova and Robert Stanley, Cindy and Marvin Stanley and Zelma and Henry Stanley.
    He is survived by his son, Billy Joe Shupe; grandsons, Daniel Stacy Kern and Joel Ray Shupe; sister-in-law, Fay Kern; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. 
    Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Cox's Chapel Church Cemetery in Mabe, VA with Bro. Chris Lane officiating. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, family is asking that memorial contributions be made to the family to assist with funeral costs.
