Obituary of Janice Carol Gillenwater

Janice Carol (Dezarn) Gillenwater, 78, of Gate City, VA (Midway Community) passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2021.

Janice was the devoted and loving wife of Richard Curtis Gillenwater for 57 years.  Richard and Janice were high school sweethearts at Gate City High School.  Janice adored her daughters Kristy Gillenwater (Chip) Nichols (Roswell, GA) and Michelle Lynn Gillenwater (preceded in death).  She was an extraordinary grandmother of cherished Lauren Ansley Nichols and Abigail Grace Nichols, whom she referred to as “Her Girls”.  Janice loved all animals but adored her precious yorky fur-baby Hokie.  Janice was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gladstone and Maxie (Starnes) Dezarn (Gate City, VA) and younger sister, Georgia Faye Dezarn (Gate City, VA).  Janice loved her nieces and nephew, Ashley Megan Brickey (Arlington, VA), William Ryan Brickey (Church Hill, TN), and Mekayla Jordan Dezarn (Lihue, HI).  Janice also treasured her numerous cousins, extended family, and close friends.  She was a member of Midway Memorial United Methodist Church and an avid gardener.

We will celebrate outdoors the wonderful life of our precious Janice on Friday, August 20, 2021 at her home, 605 Ball Field Rd., Gate City, VA.  The family will receive friends at 10:30 AM, followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 AM.  Afterwards the family will host a luncheon.  In honor of Janice’s love of flowers, the family requests attendees to wear brightly colored attire.  A private graveside service will be held for the family later that afternoon.
