I taught at Dickson School when Jim was the art teacher. He always had such a great enthusiastic spirit and a pleasure to be around. I got to see him again at the retired teacher's meetings in recent years. It was great to reconnect. My prayers are with the family as they grieve their loss. Joyce Wrye

Mr. Lane was the art teacher when I was at Madison Elementary and he posted one of my pictures in the hallway. I will always remember that he thought it was good enough to display and made me so proud. Prayers for the Family

Mr. Lane was such an amazing art teacher for so many children in the city of kingsport. I had Mr. Lane for 6 years at Dickson Elementary School and loved every minute of it. My heart breaks for his family. Rest in peace, Mr. Lane.

First met Jim in 1971, I was a senior in high school and was hired as a sign painter at Tri-State Discount store on Stone Drive where Harbour frieght is now. He was working there as over seer of that area. As time went by I would photograph him and his bands over the years. LOVE his music! He will be missed.

Mr. Lane was an amazing teacher at Washington Elementary. My children adored going to his class. I still have a cookbook my son Josh designed along with Mr. Lane. I just happened to see him at Pops a few weeks ago. Prayers for his family during this very difficult time.

My heart is breaking. He was the very cool Mr. Lane to me in the 60s in elementary school, and later he was Jim……my good friend and fellow musician. In recent years, had been a caregiver. Through his pain and his burdens, he always stayed positive and made me laugh. He was a gentleman, had a big heart, and an even bigger smile. He was genuine, and he let you know how he felt. He could play the keys too! I saw him about a year ago when I whirled back into town for a few hours. I’m so glad we got to chat, and I’m so glad I got to see that warm smile. He was one of those friends you might not see for a while, but when you met up again, it was like no time had passed. I am broken hearted I never got to say goodbye. He will be dearly missed, oh so much. To Jim’s family and friends - and Jim and David - you are all in my prayers.
