Obituary of Betty Jean Matney

          Betty J. Matney, age 83, of Mount Carmel, TN, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. She was a member of Belvue Christian Church and was a dedicated and committed Christian for over 60 years who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Betty was known for her loving heart and the compassion she showed others as a caregiver and friend. Often she would hand made gifts for her friends that she had crocheted or maybe she would prepare a meal for someone she loved. She enjoyed volunteering her time at the local nursing home. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother and friend, and her memory will be cherished.

          She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Dawn Roberts; parents, Woodrow and Earnie Hill; brothers, Jim, Bill and Bobby Hill; and sister, Carolyn “Sue” Miller.

          She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ralph L. Matney; brother, Donnie Hill (Gladys); special friend and caregiver, Joyce Perkins (Kenny); several nieces and nephews.

          A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Clinch Valley Memorial Park in Richlands, VA, with Minister John Owston officiating. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Belvue Christian Church, Kingsport, TN.
