Obituary of Garnie Maye (Hale) Freeman

Garnie Maye (Hale) Freeman, 79, of Staunton, VA and formerly of the Natural Tunnel Community of Scott County, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Garnie was born on June 24, 1943 in Scott County, VA, a daughter of the late Kelly Hale and Phronie Miranda (Bishop) Hale Stewart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Freeman; sister, Carol Payne; brothers, Earl Hale and Conley Stewart.

Surviving are her daughter, Miranda Waybright and husband John; sons, William Freeman, II and wife Arlene, Jonathan Freeman and wife Desirea and Michael Freeman; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren with 2 great-grandchildren expected soon; sisters, Marie Jones and Fannie Mullins; brother, Donnie Stewart; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Scott County Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 19, 2022 at M.C. Free Cemetery, Natural Tunnel Pkwy, Duffield, VA., with Pastor Mark Dickerson officiating. The family will meet at 10:00 am Friday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA is serving the family.
