Obituary of Minyonne Sojourner Burns

Minyonne Sojourner Burns, age 89, of Kingsport, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 5, 2022. She was born in Mississippi to the Late Furman an dLillian Keys Sojourner on January 9, 1933.

She was a very educated woman who loved her teaching career. She was a graduate of Appilachian State Teachers College; where she recieved her bachelors and master's degrees by 1955. She began teaching in Drexel, NC.On May 22, 1955 she marreid the love of her life, Bill Burns. In 1959 the family moved to Kingsport, TN. It was here that she and her husband began their long teaching careers. Mrs. Burns taught 6th grade at Washington Elementary School from 1959-1976, when she moved to Sevier Middle School. She taught there until her retirement in 1989. After her retirement she and her husband traveled extensively for many years. She loved doing anything outdoors, especially working in her beautiful rose garden. 

Minyonne is survived by one son, Bruce Burns (Sharon); granddaughter, Britney; great grandchildren, Erin, Keri, and Bryson; friend, Karen Baker; and god-children, Chris Baker and Hannah Hunt.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
