Obituary of Ray R. Pleasant

Kingsport – Ray R. Pleasant, 92 of Kingsport, died on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Encompass Health following a brief illness. Born March 20, 1930 he was the son of the late Robert and Onnie Arnold Pleasant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea in combat with the 2^Nd Infantry Division, obtaining the rank of SSgt 1^st Class. Ray was an insurance agent and retired from Nationwide Insurance following 30 years’ service. He was of the Baptist faith.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Pleasant; brother, Weldon Pleasant.

 

Ray is survived by his daughters, Gay Gillis (Jerry) and Teresa Jill Lane Stacy (Jack); grandchildren, Ashley Gillis Winstead (Josh), Justin Gillis, Emily Lane and Will Lane (Kasey); great-grandchildren Ella Winstead, Cooper Lane and Tucker Lane; sister, Nell Reaves; several nieces and nephews; mother of his children, Frances Skidmore.

 

A private graveside service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Chad Roberts officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
