Obituary of Rickey Lynn Quillen

Rickey Lynn Quillen, 65, was called home on December 29, 2022 after a short battle with cancer.

Rickey was preceded in death by his parents, Phoebe Ann and Kyle Quillen; siblings, Jennifer Avery (Quillen) and Timmy Quillen.

Rickey grew up in Gate City, VA and graduated from Gate City High School in 1976. He moved to Atlanta in his early 20s where he worked at Macy’s as a Jewelry Sales associate for many years to then working for Arby’s as a promotions manager. In 2006, he returned to his hometown to build a life he loved. Rickey loved spending his time outdoors caring for his chickens, guineas, pheasants, plants and taking his hounds hunting. Rickey also enjoyed painting, writing, and cutting up with those he loved.

He is survived by his loving sister, Tamara Smith and husband Micheal ; nephew, Jeremy (Amber) Farley; niece, Phoebe Smith; nephew, Nathan Avery; several loving friends and family; several great-nephews and nieces; niece, Homaria Mirahabibi.

Services will be held at Nottingham United Methodist Church (2616 Nottingham Rd, Gate City, VA 24251) on January 14th with visitation from 2 pm – 3 pm and a celebration of life led by Bill Porter to follow.
