Obituary of Ernest Hammons

Ernest Hammons, age 87, of Kingsport, born on June 4, 1930 in Stinking Creek, KY, to the late Richard and Ada Hammons, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2018. He was a retiree of Kerns Bakery in Bristol, VA. After retirement Ernest enjoyed doing small engine repair for approximately 25 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be greatly missed by all who love him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Felton Hammons; brothers, Frank Hammons and Rosamond Hammons; and sisters, Cora Mae Dedmond Fowler and Wanda Sue Engel. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Florence Williams Hammons; daughters, Judy Colinger and Tina South and husband, Al; son, Charlie Hammons and wife, Beth; brother, Luther Tom Hammons and wife, Edna Mae; sister, Nora Campbell; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Avalon Hospice for their loving care and support for Ernest during his declining health. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. Graveside services will follow at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Cemetery with Pastor Al South officiating. Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport is proudly serving the Hammons family.
