Church Hill - Joann Nelms Wolfe, 78 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Baysmont House in Kingsport following a brief illness, surrounded by her family. Born in Kingsport, she had lived in Flint, Michigan for several years before moving to Church Hill. Joann was a member of Eastern Star Fairview Chapter #80 and enjoyed helping her husband, Ballard, raise money for the Shriner's Hospital. Joann was a member of Upper Room Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vernie Steffey Nelms; her brothers, Rev. Ed Nelms and Jim Nelms.
Joann is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ballard Wolfe; daughters, Janice Wolfe of Gate City and Amy Laughlin and husband Greg of Church Hill; son, David Wolfe of Gate City; grandchildren, Lucas Laughlin and Audrey Laughlin; brother, Douglas Nelms and wife Rachel of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law, Ruby Nelms and Kate Nelms; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Friends may also call anytime at the residence.
A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ron Cassidy officiating. Music will be provided by Pam Jones and Miranda Hutchens.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Old Kingsport Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Laughlin, Rick Quesberry, Ted Ball, Fred Castle, Roger Johnson, Terry Fleming and Pete Nelms. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 am.
