Obituary of Melissa Christine Cowden

Melissa Christine Cowden 53, of Gate City went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born in Bristol, TN to Sammy and Nancy McMurray and was a lifelong resident of the area. Melissa worked at Eastman Chemical Co. for over 18 years before her retirement. Melissa was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and her church friends as well as helping others. Melissa was a loving wife, mother, and daughter who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ervin Ramey and wife Laura; paternal grandparents, Raymond McMurray and wife Lucille. In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband of 25 years, Jeff Cowden; son Jonathan Cowden and girlfriend, Alex; along with a host of special friends and family. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Wayne Baker and Bro. Matthew Clark officiating. Music will be provided by Billy Lawson. Graveside services will be conducted at 2pm on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:15pm to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Kingsport Oncology, Holston Valley Medical Center Wilcox Hall 3rd floor, Gardner's Chapel Baptist Church, Pleasant View Baptist Church, and Robinette's Chapel Baptist Church for all their love and support.
