Billy Frank Thompson 79 of Gray, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Kingsport to the late Frank and Ethel Thompson and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Billy served his country in the Army before going to work for Giant Grocery Store for over 29 years and later retired from White's Fresh Foods after 16 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Billy also enjoyed traveling to the beach with his grandchildren. He attended Cherry Street Church of God in Gray where he was saved and baptized. Billy was a wonderful husband, father, and papaw who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, Carl Light; sister, Geneva Greer.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 60 years, Joan Thompson; daughter, Rhonda Forster; son, Steven Thompson; grandchildren, Sierra Thompson and fiancé Brandon Sumner, Ryan Forster, Daniel Forster, Brycean Shuffler, and Ethan Shuffler; special great-granddaughter, Jaycee Sumner; brother, Earl Light; sister, Hazel Scarborough; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Steve Guinn officiating with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and the VA Medical Center staff for their loving care.
