Obituary of Nellie Ann Lawson

Nellie Ann Compton Lawson 63, of Kingsport went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 10, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Nellie was born August 4, 1954 in Dungannon, VA to the late Earnest Sevier and Loretta Lawson Compton. She was a 1973 graduate of Sullivan West High School and a member of Reservoir Road Baptist Church. Nellie was a loving and caring person who opened her home to many over the years.

Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years Rufus Lawson; five sisters, Dorothy Rhoton, Daisy (George) Carroll who was her best friend and always by her side, Dollie (Ricky) Spears, Denise (Hughie) Cassell, Shonta ( Mark) Turner; six brothers, David “Russ”, Donnie (Miranda), Paul (Joy), Dannie (Gina), Bruce (Kathy), Arthur Compton; along with 22 nieces and nephews, and 28 great nieces and nephews whom she helped raise over the years and loved very much.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport or anytime at her sister Dorothy Rhoton’s residence. A funeral service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Bill Wampler officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Compton Family Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15am to go in procession.
