Obituary of Johnny Gardner

Gate City – Johnny Daryl “Speedy” Gardner, 63 of Gate City, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 after an extended illness. He was born on March 30, 1955 to parents, Millard and Edith Bright Gardner. Speedy loved to hunt, fish and work outdoors. When he lived in Hiltons, he stayed on the river or in the mountains. Hiltons was always his true home and he and his wife missed it greatly. He was known as J. D. at work. He worked in and out of Eastman as a pipe welder for 36 years. He loved his job and took great pride in his work. He developed many lasting friendships through work and talked often of his work buddies.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Hope; sons, Wesley Daryl (Whitney) and Logan Wyatt; his mother, Edith Gardner; brother, Stanley Gardner (Pam); sister, Patricia McNutt (Doug); sister-in-law, Rickie Goodman (Hal); several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City.

A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with pastor Will Shewey and Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Music will be provided by Dale Jett and Hello Stranger.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to ICU Step-down at Holston Valley (our home away from home), Dr. Grover, Dr. Miller, Dr. David Franzus and special home nurse Amy Henley, as well as, Advanced Homecare and Bristol Select.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City is serving the Gardner family.
