Obituary of Raymond Joyce, Jr.

Gate City – Raymond Rightly Joyce, Jr., 73 of Gate City, peacefully went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Indian Path Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Kingsport, he had lived his entire life in Scott County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Tennessee Eastman Co after 33 years of service. He was a faithful member of Fairview Apostolic Church in Virginia and the Promise Church in Church Hill. Raymond loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond R. Joyce, Sr. and Edith Culbertson Joyce; brother-in-law, Bob Greer.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice Vestal Joyce; son, Preston Scott Joyce; sisters, Brenda Martin (Don), Janet Greer Couture (John), Joan Lynch (Roy) and Lisa Keel (Brian); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Lysa Vestal and Eddie and Suzanne Vestal; sister-in-law, Wanda Vestal Privette; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home.

A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chris Fields, Pastor Jonathan Lovelace and Elder Greg Cradic officiating. Music will be provided by Matthew and David Browder, Betty Jo Wells and Pam Barnette.

A military graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holston View Cemetery where the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 will conduct the honors. Pallbearers will be Jason Greer, Brian Keel, Michael Keel, Greg Cradic, Roy Lynch and Danny Ramey. Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Joyce and Greg Cradic. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.
