Obituary of Dennis Milligan

Dennis Milligan went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2018 after a year of fighting pancreatic cancer. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 70. Dennis was the oldest child of Eugene and Viola Milligan, most recently of Stone Mountain, GA. Dennis attended a one room schoolhouse in Nebraska until he was ten years old when the family moved to Georgia. He accepted Christ during Sunday School at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. Dennis accepted the call to full -time ministry at a youth retreat in North Carolina at the age of 17.

He graduated from Carson Newman College where he majored in Religion and followed this with three years at Wake Forest Theological Seminar. Dennis served several Southern Baptist Churches, first as Minister of Education then as pulpiteer. Then he moved the family to Tennessee in 1989 to eventually serve as an elder in the United Methodist Church. He served in both rural and urban churches in the Holston Conference until 2009, He has been an active member of Mafair United Methodist Church working with the children and youth since his clergy-wife went into disability in 2012. His children's sermons were his great joy.

In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by twin grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Princess April Milligan; two sons and their wives, Tyson and Cynthis, Nathaniel and Leslie; daughter Elyse; four grandchildren, Abigail, Noah, Logan, and Sarah Milligan; and his sister Sandra and brother Rodney their spouses, children, and grandschildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. The Celebration of Life Service will follow at 4:00 pm officiated by the Reverend Amy Probst at the Mafair United Methodist Church (1409 E. Center St, Kingsport, TN 37664).

The family wishes to thank caregivers at Church Hill Heath Care and the Hospice staff of Caris Hospice for their tender loving care. The family extends a special appreciation to Chandra and Mark Carver, Nick and Brittany Cannon along with many others.Also the family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and nurses and physicians at Welmont Oncology and Hematology in Alandale. You gave us an extra year to dream. Thanks to you all.
