Roosevelt ‘Pete’ Barton

Surgoinsville - Pete Barton, 85, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, May 19, 2018. He was born in Hawkins County, Tennessee on November 4, 1932. Throughout his lifetime Pete was an avid farmer and carpenter. He looked forward to visits with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maude (Ward) Barton; sisters, Mary Johnson, Ella Rea Bruner, and Mable Smith; brothers, John, Roach, Oscar, Bill, Ralph, and Jimmy Barton, daughter-in-law Patty Barton, and step grand-daughter Nikki Buffkin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hazel Barton; daughters, Loretta Christian (Junior), Michelle Buffkin (Billy); sons, Curtis Barton and Chad Barton (Mindy) all of Surgoinsville, grandchildren, Travis Christian (Terri), Justin Christian (Amy), Cassondra Johnson (Dustin), Brittany Huckaby, Bridget Sandidge (Andrew), Chelsea Livesay (Dylan), Brandon Buffkin, Celine McNally, Scarlet Barton, one step granddaughter Kyrs Buffkin, 16 great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, sisters, Elizabeth Harrell of Kingsport, Ruth Vitko (Michael) of Amissville, VA, Louise Crawford (James) of Surgoinsville, several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours are from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, Tennessee. Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Tecky Hicks officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 22nd at McConnell Cemetery, 577 Stony Point Road, Surgoinsville. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are asked to meet the family at the graveside at 10:50 am.
