Obituary of Henry Jay Prater

Henry Jay Prater, age 67, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024. He had worked at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and most recently was a retiree of Loomis Armored Transportation. Henry loved to fish and play drums, and was a member of several local bands.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Tiny Prater.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kim Prater; daughter, Wendy Gauthier; son, Troy Prater; sisters, Penny and Mary Prater; brother, Tim Prater and wife, GeorgeAnn; granddaughter, Adrianne Raine Hobbs; and grandson, Ian Storme Hobbs.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport. A military graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
