Obituary of Carolyn Templeton Gilliam

Carolyn Templeton Gilliam passed away on January 17, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center after suffering a stroke on January 11, 2024.  Carolyn was born on November 23, 1942, in Scott County, VA, in the Manville Community, to Thomas Wrightly and Rosa Musick Templeton.  In 1966, Carolyn married Larry Gilliam and they enjoyed over 53 years together before his death in December of 2019. 

Carolyn retired from the Kingsport Press (Quebecor) after many years, and she worked at Holston Valley Medical Center several years after retiring from the Kingsport Press.  Carolyn will be remembered as a very kind and generous person, as it brought joy to her to give to others.  

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry C. Giliam; siblings, Troy Templeton, Pauline T. Lawson, Doretta T. Peters, Thomas Oliver Templeton, and Gary Templeton; two nephews, Terry Lawson (2012), and Michael Templeton (2017); two nieces, Sherry Linkous (2023), and Janet Chatman (2023).  She is survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.  Those nieces closest to her are Wilma Willen, and Linda Easterling.  Close nephews are Gerald, Rick, and Roger Templeton and Ronnie and Mark Peters.  Carolyn also shared a special bond with Larry’s niece, Brenda Parsons, and her family: Ron, Becky, and Clint. 

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nursing staff at JCMC for their concern and care for Carolyn. 

Per Caryolyn’s wishes, there will be no memorial services.
