Obituary of Dorothy Lee Compton Rhoton

Dorothy Lee Compton Rhoton, 76 of Sullivan Gardens went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was a 1965 graduate of Sullivan West High School. Dorothy was a longtime member of Reservoir Road Baptist Church and a current member of Bays Mountain Baptist Church. She worked for many years at Church Hill Health and Rehab. Dorothy had spent the last 13 years on dialysis but was a pillar of strength for her family. She was a loving mother, nana, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest Sevier and Loretta Lawson Compton along with her sister, Nellie Lawson.

She is survived by her daughters, April Collings (Matt), and Misty McFarland (Adam); granddaughters, Alissa Kindle (Shane), and Haylee Townsend (Nick); great-grandchildren, Raelynn Gragg, Beckham Gragg, and Kehlani Jones; brothers, David “Russ” Compton, Donnie Compton  (Merinda), Paul Compton (Joy), Dannie Compton (Gina), Bruce Compton (Kathy) and Artie Compton; sisters, Daisy Carroll (George), Dollie Spears (Ricky), Denise Compton, Shonta Compton (Mark); brother-in-law, Rufus Lawson; special cousin, Nancy Collins; along with several nieces and nephews.

 The family will receive friends from 11 am until 1 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Tim Nelson officiating.

Graveside services will follow at the Compton Family Cemetery in Sullivan Gardens with her family serving as pallbearers.

 Friends may also visit anytime at Dorothy’s home.
