Obituary of Billy Gene Winegar
Billy Gene Winegar, age 86, of Church Hill went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Hawkins County where he spent his entire life. He had proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Billy was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and belonged to the Knoxville Masonic Lodge and Clay Lodge in Church Hill. He was of the Baptist faith. Billy retired from working as a carpenter after 40+ years of service.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Pauline (McPeek) Winegar; father, Richard Cox; mother, Pearly May Winegar Thacker; grandparents, M.C. and Mattie Winegar; and brother, Tom Thacker.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kathy Derrick (Harold) and Mellissa Barton (Aaron Russell); sons, Michael “Mikey” Scott Winegar and Steve Alexander Winegar (Yvette); 4 grandchildren, Les Derrick, Brettney Barton, Brad Barton (Samantha) and Alexander Winegar (Kirstie); 6 great-grandchildren, Kobe Derrick, Tiah Hill, Elim Barton, Ebbin Barton, Shelton Winegar and Kyleighlynn Winegar; 2 great great-grandchildren, Cyrus Derrick and Nolan Hill; sisters, Shirley “Polly” Thacker and Joann Cox Winegar (Ed); brother, J.H. “Jim” Thacker (Sue); several nieces, nephews and family that he loved very much.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Clay Lodge performing Masonic Rites and Rev. Ray Bledsoe officiating. A Military Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 12, 2024, at McPeek Family Cemetery with American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 performing military honors. All those wishing to drive in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:45 am.
