Obituary of Bessie Meredith McNew

Bessie "Mert" Meredith McNew, age 66, of Duffield, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 16, 2015 at her home. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening and enjoyed tending to her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mable Bowen; daughter, Meredith Ann Darnell; brothers, Tom, Jim and Bobby Bowen; and sisters, Lynn Gilliam and Minnie Sue Calton. She is survived by her husband, Fred McNew; 2 grandchildren, Justin Darnell (Samantha) and Kimberly Stapleton (Wesley); brother, Jerry Bowen (Beulah); sisters, Ada Jean McNew (John), Loretta Bowen and Ruth Austin (Cecil); several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in the McNew Cemetery in Duffield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fred McNew. Scott County Funeral Home is honored to serve the McNew family.
