Obituary of Carl Herman Johnson

Carl Herman Johnson, 83, Surgoinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday night (December 23, 2014) at Nova Health Care in Weber City following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. He retired from AFG Greenland, in supervision following 37 years of service. Following retirement, he enjoyed working for Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill and also loved to be "his own personal greeter" at the Food City in Church Hill. Carl Herman will always be remembered for his love of making people smile. He was a member of Phipps Bend Free Will Baptist Church in Surgoinsville. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Dobbs Johnson in 2012; parents, Fred Lee and Flora Bailey Johnson; sisters, Margaret Johnson Justice and Beulah Johnson Rhea; a brother, J. Fred (Junior) Johnson; a sister-in-law, Louise "Tiny" Christian; and a brother-in-law, Ivan Darryl Christian. Carl H. Johnson is survived by his only son, Larry Johnson and wife, Nancy; his beloved grandson, Caleb Johnson; brothers, J.D. Johnson and wife Janice, Roy Alvin Johnson & wife Ruth; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson, and a brother-in-law, Arling (Chester) Rhea; along with several special nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday (December 27, 2014) from 11 am to 1 pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residence of his son. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday (December 27, 2014) at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chris Castle and Pastor George Winegar, officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral at First United Methodist Church Cemetery in Surgoinsville. The Johnson family would like to extend a "Special Thank You" to Sandra Brown and staff at Steadman Hill, Staff at Baysmont, both of Kingsport, and Nova Health Care Center of Weber City.
