Obituary of Douglas Lee Mitchell

Douglas Lee Mitchell, age 79, of Mt. Carmel, TN, passed away at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at his home, with his wife by his side. He was born on October 9, 1935 in Kingsport, TN, the son of the late John H. Mitchell and Grace Pratt Mitchell. Doug had lived all his life in this area and worked as a butcher for Giant Food Store and as a forklift operator for K-VAT Food Services. He enjoyed playing the lottery, watching UT football, was a fan of Dale Earnhardt racing and loved his pet cat, Samantha. Surviving Mr. Mitchell are his wife, Marie Housewright Mitchell of Mt. Carmel; son, Douglas Mitchell Jr. and wife, Lisa of Kingsport; sister, Neva Powers and husband, Charles of Knoxville; niece, Kathy Hall and husband, Bob of Knoxville; step-daughter, Dianne Cobb and husband, Jerry of Church Hill; 3 granddaughters, Angie Margrave and husband, Will of Harriman, Jennifer Cobb of Morristown, and Hannah Cobb of Church Hill; 2 great granddaughters, Kathleen and Mackenzie Margrave. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Andy Sensabaugh and Rev. Ed McLain officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Springs Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers.
